Denmark has the least extreme climate of the Scandinavian countries, and though temperatures vary little across the country, wind conditions and proximity to the sea shake things up a bit. Rainfall levels are more of less constant throughout the year with an annual average of 61 cm.

Spring brings bright sunlight, cloudless skies and beeches bursting into leaf, whereas the summer months of June, July and August are the warmest and almost always sunny and clear. Autumn is another good time to visit with the falling leaves providing a pretty golden show, and cold, but rarely severe, Denmark's winters are, in fact, less frigid than those of its northernly Scandinavian neighbours. The possibilities for outside pursuits might be more limited, but winter is by no means off-limits for visitors. It is during these darkest months of the year, that the slugs of snaps and hot gløgg help to keep the cold at bay and the Danish feel of hygge comes into its own.
