Transportation: Copenhagen’s infrastructure never been better

Business and leisure travellers alike, locals and foreigners, may have known it for quite a while, but Copenhagen is an incredibly easy city to get around and these days the new Metro system and shuttle bus services makes it even easier!

Copenhagen Metro voted “World's Best” by international metro industry

Against tough competition from other metro systems around the world, including London, Madrid and Singapore, industry leaders from the metropolises around the world have just recently awarded Copenhagen’s metro the “world's best”!

Passenger satisfaction figures above the usual have indicated it for a while; the reason why Copenhagen’s Metro can now pride itself with being the world’s best, is its high level of reliability, safety and service in combination with the quick and efficient manner in which the latest section of the metro line from the city centre to Copenhagen airport was built.

Thus, Copenhagen’s new and seamless Metro system is a real boon to local Copenhageners, tourists and business travellers alike!

For business people keen on getting out of an airport an onto their next meeting or hotel in the fastest possible way, the Copenhagen Metro is a great plus too. For one, the Metro station at the airport is easily found at the end of Terminal 3 and covered by the roof of the terminal. On top, tickets are available at the station or at a DSB ticket sales counter inside the terminal and the Metro operates at 4-6 minutes’ intervals during the day and evening (and every 15 minutes during the night - from five o'clock in the morning until midnight). Just as importantly, travel time from central Copenhagen to the airport and vice versa is a mere 15 minutes at a cost of approximately DKK 30 (£3) – and thus, faster and cheaper than going by cab and better for the environment too!

Facts about the Metro
- The prize of ‘world's best metro' was awarded in early April during the “Metro Rail” conference in Copenhagen.
- Approximately 40 million passengers used the Copenhagen Metro in 2007.
- The Metro system opened in October 2002 and belongs to the world’s newest, most advanced and highest frequency metro systems with fully automatic, driverless trains and CCTV surveillance.

- The next extension, the City Ring, encompasses another 17 stations and will link the ‘Bridge Quarters' of Copenhagen to the city centre via an underground tunnel ring and is set for completion in 2018.
