Meetovation in Monocle

March 2011

Meetovation, the ground-breaking Danish meeting concept settling with past business events’ tedious one-way communication approaches, made it into the February 2011 issue of the esteemed Monocle magazine.
Monocle’s February issue included a survey worthy of note: “The Guide to Hosting a Better Conference”. The survey puts the spotlight on the crucial difference between boring an audience and inspiring it and on the fine art of public speaking – and learns that the radical Danish Meetovation concept is one way to avoid killing the audience!

Monocle asked 20 international top speakers how to make a conference “the talk of town”, one of them being Ms. Ann Hansen, Consultant and Director of Concept+Competence in Denmark who, together with VisitDenmark’s Business Tourism Team helps spreading the word about the Danish Meetovation concept.

Meetovation focuses on ensuring and measuring client benefit from the time and money invested in the meeting, hence the expression “RoMI” – Return on Meetings Investment.

What is unique to Meetovation is the training and implementation of set principles that are at the core of the Danish concept; involvement of delegates, creative use of physical facilities, green and responsible operation, integration of authentic and local flavour and the RoMI factor.

The unconventional concept has achieved industry-wide support in Denmark and includes an educational programme offered to local hotel and conference centre staff. Due to demand a new version has been developed for corporate and association meeting planners as well. Both versions are being conducted by Ann Hansen.

International Marketing Manager - Business Tourism at VisitDenmark, Anja Hartung Sfyrla, says:

“We are very pleased that Ann and the Meetovation concept made it into the survey conducted by Monocle, a well-esteemed magazine with a true global reach. Being the owner of Meetovation, VisitDenmark, and its usual “partner in crime” Wonderful Copenhagen CVB, enthusiastically use the concept in the international meeting destination branding, of course, and everyone involved is proud of being amongst the frontrunners in the crusade against boring business meetings and conferences!”
