a sculptor. The sculpture Torso is a more than two meters in height and is made of bronze. “His Royal Highness has generously given the sculpture project in Denmark the opportunity to display his newly crafted bronze sculpture. On behalf of Sculpture by the Sea, the mayor of Aarhus Nicolai Wammen has welcomed the appearance and the participation of His Royal Highness at the site”, says Director Jens Erik Sorensen of ARoS.
60 unique and incredible sculptures The event shoots of at the 5th of June and can be visited for a period of whole three weeks until the 28thof June. In this period the costal line at Aarhus Bugten (The bay of Aarhus), from Tangkrogen, near the centre of Aarhus, to Ballehage, will be transformed to a huge exhibition site. Nearly 60 unique sculptures from more than ten countries around the world will be displayed at no cost for the spectators. A great variety in sizes, shapes, forms and materials can be experience at a course of 3 kilometres where the beach, the sea and the wood will integrated to a unique setting as a exhibition site. The sculptures and invited artists have carefully been chosen by a jury containing two Danish and two Australian members.
It will provide the audience in near Europe with interest for art happenings as well as sculptures an experience of unseen character where nature, sea and art will interact with each other during the long days and short nights of the Danish summer.
Exhibition with Royal influence The reason for this change in site area was actually based upon an idea of Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary who experienced the exhibition at Bondi Beach near Sydney a couple of years ago. At that state they were deeply fascinated by the interplay between the sculptures and the coastline. Ever since then, they have hoped that Sculpture by the Sea some day could come to Denmark. Now, in the period of 5th-28th June, this is reality. Actually, it is the first time ever in the 12 year history of Sculpture by the Sea that this world known and very extraordinary exhibition of modern art is leaving the continent of Australia.
Event opening and press conference Under the patronage of Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary the ceremony officially opens the 5th of June. The opening ceremony will start at the site at 14.00 at Tangkrogen. At this stage of The Sculpture by the Sea exhibition in Denmark the patrons will appear in public as key speakers to the audience.
The day before, the 4th of June at 12.00 am, the press conference will be set at the Helnan Marselis Hotel, which more specific is placed in the middle of the exhibition site.
Along side with ARoS the Sculpture by the Sea project is supported by The Municipality of Aarhus in cooperation Kulturhus Aarhus and Boernekulturhuset this summer.
