Hostels to suit everyone

It doesn’t matter who you are or by what means you travel – the Danish youth & family hostels offer you pleasant and affordable accommodation.

All you need for a successful hostelling holiday is to be open-minded and keen to meet other people. The hostels themselves make a lot of effort to ensure that their guests feel at home and contented, and the aim is to create a sociable atmosphere in which guests can get together and enjoy each other’s company.

The pleasant living room, fireside, barbecue in the garden, kids play area, table tennis, etc. all help to bring people together.

Town or countryside? – the choice is yours!

Some hostels are located in the cities and towns, while others are found in more rural surroundings. Many are new and equipped with the latest in modern facilities, while others are old and housed in beautiful, carefully restored buildings and drenched in atmosphere.
As a family or group, renting a single room to share is ideal – and good value too. All of Denmark’s approx. 100 classified DANHOSTELS are fitted with modern facilities and have family rooms containing 2-6 beds. Many rooms have an en suite bathroom/toilet, while others are more simply furnished with a hand basin in the room and communal bathroom and toilet facilities.

Family rooms can actually be rented as single or double rooms, but the price will be a bit higher. However, if you are staying on your own and willing to share a room with others, the price will be very reasonable indeed.

What do you need to bring?

You can choose to bring your own bedding, i.e. sheet, duvet, and pillow case, plus towel, but it is not essential because these are all available for hire at the hostels. However, you can leave your sleeping bag at home, because these are not permitted in Danish hostels.
All DANHOSTELS serve a really healthy, nourishing breakfast to give you a good start to the day’s fun and activity. In the interests of all guests and hostel owners DANHOSTEL Danmarks Vandrerhjem has set a minimum standard for breakfasts at all the hostels. This means that you can be sure of enjoying a hearty and varied breakfast buffet at all the hostels.

Evening meals are also served at some hostels and these – like the breakfasts – must be booked in advance. Many hostels also serve special kids menus.

Guests’ kitchen

For those who prefer to do their own cooking, all DANHOSTELS provide guests’ kitchens with everything you need in the way of pots and pans and cooker and often an oven, fridge and coffee machine besides. Self-catering guests will, however, need to bring tableware, cutlery, tea towels, etc.
All hostels in the DANHOSTEL chain have been classified and awarded stars - from 1 to 5. The hostels are rated on the basis of a long list of requirements.

Environmentally-aware

If you want to help protect the environment you should look for The Green Key symbol as a guarantee that the hostel satisfies a number of stringent environmental requirements. This certificate is regarded by many as the world’s best environmental concept in the accommodation sector.

For groups the Danish hostels provide ideal accommodation. The hosts are experienced hands with extensive local knowledge and will therefore be able to provide helful advice and guidance both before and during your stay.

Many hostels also have educational facilities with all kinds of equipment. Not only are the amenities perfect, but the catering – in the form of 2 square meals a day – also takes some beating! But remember to book well in advance.

Sports enthusiasts will find ideal accommodation in hostels because they are often part of or close to sports centres, making them ideal for training camps, competitions, tournaments and referee and coach training courses.
You will need a Hostel Card to stay at DANHOSTELS. If you do not already have a card you can buy one at the first hostel you arrive at.
