Facts about LEGOLAND®

  • LEGO® was founded by Ole Kirk Christiansen in 1934. The name comes from the Danish words "Leg godt", meaning "Play well".
  • In 1968 the idea of making a permanent exhibition of LEGO models was hit upon and the first LEGOLAND opened in Billund, Denmark.
  • In 1992 Windsor Safari Park went into receivership and four years later in 1996 LEGOLAND Windsor opened on the site, using 25 million LEGO bricks.
  • Since the opening of LEGOLAND Windsor, LEGOLAND California opened in 1999 and more recently LEGOLAND Deutschland opened in 2002.

Facts about the Land of the Vikings

  • The Land of the Vikings opened up in August 2007 with Denmark as the main sponsor
  • The Viking's River Splash is its main attraction and the biggest ride in LEGOLAND Windsor 
  • Another attraction is the Nordic-themed hedge maze where you try to unravel the mystery of Loki’s Labyrinth
  • The Longboat Invader opened at the start of the season 2008.
