You don’t have to go hungry! The Danes love dining and drinking – so please join them!

Breakfast, which at most hotels is served between 7am and 10am, can be characterised as "Continental" and typically consists of coffee/tea, various types of bread/rolls, cheese, egg, cold meat slices, preserves and Danish pastry.
Lunch is usually taken at around noon and typically consists of open sandwiches (smørrebrød). These can be bought to take-away either from smørrebrød outlets or ordered in restaurants. At many large restaurants patrons can take lunch from "the large cold table", a self-service buffet where you can select bread and toppings to compose your own open sandwiches. A buffet of this kind will typically consist of herring specialities, fried fish fillets, various cold meats, salads, small, heated dishes, prawns, salmon, smoked eel, chicken and a small selection of cheeses. The majority of restaurants also offer "platters" which provide the luncheon guest with a personal mini-version of the buffet.
The evening meal is typically taken between 6pm and 8pm, but the majority of establishments will still be serving until 9pm or 10pm, and in some place even later. The menu at a Danish restaurant will usually be made up of Danish and international dishes. The Danish dishes usually consist of produce from Danish farms or Danish gardens - i.e. various meat or fish dishes, typically served with potatoes and other vegetables.
Given the wide choice of places to eat in Denmark the price of a dinner for two can range from around a couple of hundred Kroner to well over the thousand-Kroner mark, depending on the standard, service, location, etc.

Service charges are automatically added to hotel and restaurant bills, so no further tipping is required. Tipping for outstanding service is a matter of choice, but is not expected.
