City Break in Aarhus

Denmark's second largest city, Aarhus (spelled Århus in Danish), is the ideal destination for a weekend away. The biggest appeal of Denmark’s second largest city is really quite intangible – it is the atmosphere: a mixture of old-world charm, a vibrant, social buzz and gorgeous woodlands and shorelines right on its doorstep.

Aarhus is situated on the East Coast of Jutland, has one of the most scenic views in Denmark. It has a blend of Scandinavian atmosphere, European style and Jutlandic humour that make it the ideal destination for a relaxing break.

Travel with either Norwegian or cimber from Gatwick to Billund (with connecting coach to Aarhus) or go by Ryanair from Stansted to Aarhus Airport.

The city centre of Aarhus can easily be explored by foot.
You can also rent a car before you go and you will be able to explore the surrounding area as well.
The picturesque streets of the inner city have a tempting café scene, there are good restaurants and an opportunity to relax in some of the cosiest pubs in Europe. The riverside cafés at Vadestedet, where the river runs through the city, have a genuine urban feel. Whether you go shopping in the city's main thoroughfare or in the narrow, winding alleys of the Latin Quarter, the selection will be wide good.
Aarhus is known far and wide beyond Denmark for its lively music scene. It has a large Concert Hall (Musikhus) and hosts major cultural events all year round, including the famous Aarhus Festival (www.aarhusfestuge.dk). There is dance and theatre in the City's many venues, and exciting museums. The new Aros - Museum of Modern Art is yet another good reason to visit Aarhus.
This quaint, historic open-air museum contains 75 buildings dating back from the Renaissance to World War I, and cobblestone streets redolent of a bygone age.
Kvindemuseet in Aarhus, a celebration of the female spirit through the ages, is the only museum of its kind in the world!
This wonderful amusement park attracts the young at heart from all over the world.
