City Break in Aarhus

Denmark's second largest city, Aarhus is the ideal destination for a weekend away. Experience a mixture of old-world charm, a vibrant, social buzz and gorgeous woodlands and shorelines right on its doorstep.

The Old Town is a quaint, living open-air museum containing buildings dating back from the Renaissance to 1960, and cobblestoned streets redolent of a bygone age. Remember to try the delicious treats from the historic bakery or some of the restaurants serving food the old style.

ARoS is the main art Museum in Aarhus and one of the largest museums in Northern Europe. At ARoS you can experience Rainbow Panorama, which is a giant installation on the roof top of ARoS created by the world famous artist Olafur Eliasson. Kvindemuseet presents knowledge of women's lives and work in Danish culture history. It is the only museum of its kind in the world!

When walking around in the centre of Aarhus make sure to stop by Århus Cathedral, which is the impressive cathedral dating back from the 12th century. Moesgaard Museum is a museum surrounded by beautiful woodlands and not far from the coast line. At the museum you can see the Grauballe Man - a two thousand year old bog body.

Aarhus is a great place to shop as it offers both a pedestrian street, primarily with high street brands, as well as smaller niche shops in the Latin Quarter. Here you walk through small cobblestoned streets where you will find  galleries, vintage clothing shops as well as designer boutiques.

Aarhus has become a city with many exiting cafés and restaurants in all price ranges. The Frederiksberg Quarter is home to some great restaurants with a nordic cuisine. Along the river bank running through the centre of Aarhus the many cafés cater to all needs. Here the citizens of Aarhus enjoy themselves with a glass of wine or a meal with friends.
Aarhus is known for its lively music scene. It has a large Concert Hall (Musikhus) and hosts major cultural events all year round, including the famous Aarhus Festival (www.aarhusfestuge.dk) where you can experience dance and theatre in the City's many venues, and exciting museums.
Aarhus Concert Hall offers a variety of artistic activities and at The Aarhus Theatre next to the Cathedral you can watch a play on one of the five stages. The amusement park, Tivoli Friheden, attracts the young at heart and in the summertime there are concerts under the open sky every Friday evening.
