What makes the Øresund region unique is that it is part Danish and part Swedish. The region is centred on the two pulsating modern cities of Copenhagen and Malmö only 35 minutes apart. It blends the very best of Denmark and Sweden into one dynamic, contrasting and perfect destination. Whether you are looking for culinary treasures, breathtaking scenery, innovative Scandinavian design, active living, exceptional shopping or just a place to rest, here you will find the best of all the world, in one unique destination.
The city, the sea, the people and the atmosphere - Malmö simply has so much to offer for people of all ages and interests. City buzz or beach life? In Malmö you can enjoy both. Charming, medieval squares and great shopping possibilities in the city centre. A fantastic view of Øresund in the new district in Western Harbour. In this area you also find the Turning Torso - a spectacular and innovative building, revolving around its axis. Close to the city centre you will find Ribersborg, a two-kilometre sandy beach. In the summer months, people come here to sunbathe, swim and barbecue. You can swim here in winter too, but we recommend a visit to Kallbadhuset's wood-fired sauna first! Art and culture in Malmö have earned a reputation for variety and a superb standard. There is everything from Malmö Museums's wide and diverse range of galleries to Konsthallen, Rooseum and many more besides. For aficionados of design, there's the illustrious Form Design Center, which has its own shop and a varied programme of exhibitions all year round, to the eye-catching David Design and Formargruppen to name just a few. www.malmo.se
Malmöhus Castle: The foundation of the oldest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia was laid in 1436 during the regency of Eric of Pomerania.
Turning Torso: Don't miss architect Santiago Calatrava's spectacular apartment building in the Western Harbour. At 190 metres, Turning Torso is the tallest building in Sweden.
Stortorget: Stortorget, marked by the equestrian statue of King Karl X Gustav, was built in 1536 at the initiative of Jörgen Kock, Malmö's powerful mayor and master of the mint.
Kockska huset: Kockska huset, one of the most well-preserved 16th century buildings in Malmö, is of red brick with a richly ornamented stepped gable.
St. Peter’s Church: The oldest building in Malmö, dating from the early 14th century, peeks out from behind the City Hall. The church was built in "Baltic Brick Gothic" and is very similar to St. Mary's Church in Lübeck.
Möllevangen: The most colourful district in Malmö. The market trade is lively here and the shops and restaurants have roots all over the world.
If you find yourself with a need of shopping on a Sunday and all the shops are closed in Copenhagen, do not despair! 35 minutes away by train – in Malmö – you can shop every day of the week, including Sundays. And it is even cheaper than in Copenhagen! The small but cosy city has lots to offer: Distances are short and large department stores and small, fashionable boutiques can all be found within easy walking distance of each other. The main shopping area runs from Stortorget and Lilla Torg, through Södergatan, via Gustav Adolfs Torg (Gustav Adolf's Square), continuing southwards along Södra Förstadsgatan, to Triangeln and on. Most of this area is pedestrianised, so you can enjoy your shopping without having to contend with traffic, and appreciate everything on offer. This is a lively area, particularly in summer when the outdoor cafés and restaurants come to life. Hansa, Triangeln and the newly built Baltzar City are some of the larger shopping centres along the pedestrian zone. Also, be sure not to miss Möllevången, one of the most colourful districts in Malmö featuring shops and restaurants from all over the world, five minutes by foot from the pedestrian zone.
Malmö DesignIf you wish to buy some of the renowned Scandinavian design, then there is everything from BQ of Sweden to David Design, from Form Design Center, Olsson & Gerthel and Norrgavel to Formargruppen, a gathering of local designers and art and craftsmen. There are at least fifteen more oases of design and creativity waiting to be found, and that's only in the city centre. So take a walk through art and design - welcome to Malmö!

Copenhagen and the Danish part of Oresund
Copenhagen is a must and there are endless attractions to dig into, although sometimes it’s enough just to sit by the Nyhavn canalfront and watch people go by. When you need to get away from the buzzing city life, you can travel along the coast north of Copenhagen. Enjoy the spectacular Kronborg Castle and walk in the footsteps of Hamlet and Shakespeare. And take in the elegance of the royal Fredensborg Palace and its beautiful gardens. On your way up to the ferry across to Sweden – you will find inspiring places like the world-class Louisiana Museum of Modern Art idyllically situated in a park with an enchanting view of the Swedish coast. Not to mention the oldest amusement park in the world – Bakken - with 100 different kinds of activities and 35 cosy restaurants – right in the heart of the forest, Dyrehaven. Don’t miss the Karen Blixen Museum at Rungstedlund – the birthplace of the Danish novelist. After or in between the different attractions you can choose to visit one of the many beautiful and sandy beaches of Northern Sealand. Before you get on the ferry why not relax in Helsingør – the town that Hans Christian Andersen used to call his Little Copenhagen, a big city in miniature, with a wide range of activities on offer
