Shopping in Copenhagen

Shopping in Copenhagen is excellent. Few cities' shops can match the Danish capital for inspiration per square metre. The city centre is full of independent retailers and small, exclusive boutiques, and has several grand department stores. What it lacks in size, Copenhagen's shopping district makes up for in diversity and quality.

Great places to shop in Copenhagen: Strøget, Strædet, Købmagergade, Kronprinsensgade, Grønnegade, Ny Østergade, Latin Quarter, Vesterbro and Nørrebro.

Copenhagen Design

Definitions of Danish design have filled countless books and newspaper articles over the last few decades, but its essence is to be found in timeless simplicity, quality materials and functionality.

One thing is certain; Danes are among the leaders in world design. Today, the Danish design wave has washed over the city with independent shops in fashionable areas of the city. Bang & Olufsen, the ultimate in designer stereo equipment, and silversmith Georg Jensen, are just two Danish brands famous worldwide. Both have shops on Strøget as does Royal Copenhagen, makers of Danish porcelain. Within interior the classics are the two furniture designers Arne Jacobsen and Hans J. Wegner now followed by modern interior design companies like GUBI, Normann Copenhagen, Casa Shop and Designer Zoo.

Danes are in Fashion

The profile of Copenhagen's fashion designers has increased dramatically. These days, Danish designers working both in Copenhagen and for world famous labels in Paris, London and Milan, exert a sizeable influence over the international fashion industry. This creative strength, and the esteem in which Danish designers are held around the world, is also reflected in Copenhagen’s wealth of designer stores and boutiques.

Most of these designer brands have their own shops in the centre of Copenhagen check on their websites where to go.
