Covering an area of 260km2, around half of the park is designated as Natura 2000 areas, consisting of woods, farmland and beaches. The future national park visitor centre will be located at the historic Esrum Abbey
situated just north of the UNESCO World Heritage woodland of Gribskov
, which is included in the park. Lesser-visited areas of natural beauty include the tumbling seaside cliffs and dunescapes of the coastline around Tisvilde and Liseleje.
The national park offers accommodation at seaside hotels, manors and hostels. The northern coast also includes areas with holiday homes.
