Panorama route: In the quiet of the green woods

Animal fun and medieval heritage by a country lane

Cyclists on bridge

4. In the quiet of the green woods

Meandering along country lanes and through meadows and woodland, the 24 km route offers a surprising world of animal fun such as at the small Guldborgsund Zoo & Botanical Garden with its exotic animals including tigers and lemurs. Just a few kilometres north of the cycle route there is also a Crocodile Zoo with Europe’s largest collection of crocs. Visit during feeding time – called ‘snappy hour’! The cycling experience can also be combined with a visit to the Medieval Centre in Nykøbing Falster, which features a reconstructed harbour village as well as hands-on activities in the technology park featuring medieval war machines and whimsical contraptions from the dark ages. Here you can help crank up the life-sized catapults and fire rocks into the lake! There are daily tournaments with knights in shining armour – and you can taste medieval food at the inn. The town of Nykøbing Falster also celebrates its festival week from 1-8 August 2014 with family activities and entertainment.

The Panorama initiative

Powered by Cycling: Panorama is a new initiative that makes it easier for holidaymakers in Denmark to experience some of the best the nation has to offer. The Panorama initiative offers 26 new looped cycling routes that branch out from two of Denmark’s most scenic national cycling route - the West Coast Route and the Berlin-Copenhagen Route. The short routes have been upgraded with new cycling infrastructure and an international hospitality quality labelling system - Bike+Bed. Many of these routes offer a unique chance to explore nature, heritage and family attractions in Denmark by pedal power.

Bike+Bed quality labelling of bicycle friendly accommodation.
80 hostels, camping grounds, B&Bs and hotels are set to join the scheme in 2014.
