The Ancient Monuments at Lykkesholm

The Lykkesholm Estate nestles in beautiful scenery at the far end of a valley, by a lake surrounded by woodland.

In another branch of the valley lies Lykkesholm's predecessor, Magelund Voldsted, which is one of Denmark's largest and most strongly fortified castle mounds from the Middle Ages. North of the valley lie a series of lang barrows, included the longest on in all of Denmark. There are info points at the sites.

The writer Hans Christian Andersen often stayed at Lykkesholm where he gained inspiration for a number of his works.

Magelund Voldsted and its immediate surroundings are a conservation area that is open to the public. The country has arranged with the owners for there to be access to some of the ancient monuments. In all other cases, the normal access regulations of the natur protection act apply.
