Stenbjerg Beach in Thy National Park

Beach at Stenbjerg

One of the characteristics of Danish coastal fishing was that the boats were hauled up onto the beach, often by means of a winching system. For more than 300 years this was the case in Stenbjerg, until 1972 when the last boat stopped fishing due to increasing maintenance costs of the winching system.

People who appreciate the special ambience here, locals or tourists, have made up the Society for the Presevation of Stenbjerg Slipway. This society is in charge of maintaining the buildings and the yearly summer festival "Stenbjergdagen" (Stenbjerg Day) which always falls on the second Sunday in July. On this special day an enormous fish buffet is lined up - there is music, and the rescue services demonstrate their skills.
