Historical archery at Børglum Abbey

Follow in the footsteps of the archers and experience a weekend full of fire, iron and impressive craftsmanship at Børglum Abbey.

Embark on a journey back in time and experience the exciting world of historical archery! The day will feature archery demonstrations and long-range archery, and you'll also have the opportunity to try your hand at archery.

Archery is a sport and skill that involves shooting arrows at a target with a bow. It has a long history dating back to ancient times, where it was used primarily for hunting and warfare. There are several different types of archery. There is competitive archery, where participants compete in various disciplines and at different distances, and which often has uniform rules. Traditional archery focuses on using traditional bows and techniques without modern aids. Finally, archery in nature often includes 3D animal shooting, where archers must shoot realistic animal models in a natural environment.

On this special weekend, you can experience the YDALIR archers in action. Their performances combine precision and speed with stories about the bow as a weapon and hunting tool throughout history. Those who would like to try archery have numerous opportunities to do so – it's free for all guests of the abbey.

One of the highlights of the weekend is a meeting with a real bowmaker, who will demonstrate how medieval bows were made using traditional techniques. Here, you can experience this fascinating craft up close and gain insight into the role of the bow in the past.

You can also watch the medieval blacksmith at work – a sensual and powerful experience where sparks fly and the past becomes tangible in the heat of the iron.

The event is aimed at children and adults alike, history buffs and anyone who appreciates good craftsmanship and lively communication. Whether you're new to the world of the Middle Ages or already have experience, you can expect an experience that will arouse curiosity and excitement.
