Visit the Cold War Bunker

Come down under Haderslev Cathedral School and experience a bunker that only a few have had access to.

In the early 1960s, with the threat of nuclear war looming over the world, pressure mounted to secure regional commands with specially built bunker facilities.

In 1959, the construction of a new school was included in the national budget, and work on the school began in 1964. It took three years for the construction to be completed in 1967.

After the Cold War, the bunker lost its original purpose and was used for storage. In recent years, however, it has been restored and brought back to its original Cold War-era state.

In connection with the Haderslev Lysfest on May 4th 2025, the bunker will open its doors to visitors from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. It is free to visit the basement. Please note that the bunker is not wheelchair accessible, and there is limited space for visitors at a time.
