Top spots for Copenhagen in CNT Readers’ Choice Awards 2020

At this year’s Condé Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards, five Copenhagen hotels are among the top-25 hotels in Northern Europe. Copenhagen also came out as one of the ten best big cities in the world.

6 October the Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards were announced with several top spot for the Danish capital and its hotels. Copenhagen was chosen as number nine among the top ten best big cities in the world, chosen for its many Michelin star restaurants, charming old-school architecture and inspiring biking culture.

Skt. Petri in the Copenhagen city center was chosen as the #1 hotel in Northern Europe and also made it to the top ten in all of Europe. Located in a transformed former department store, the relaxed luxury vibe and unique design details are what makes this hotel so special.

Three of the boutique hotels by Danish hotel group Brøchner also made the cut with #10, #21 and #23 for the hotels SP34, Hotel Danmark and Hotel Ottilia. Brøchner is known for placing their hotels in unique buildings and using the original features as an active element in their design and architecture. The newest addition, Hotel Ottilia, opened last year in the upcoming Copenhagen area of Carlsberg Byen, which has previously housed the brewery giving the area its name. Earlier this year, Hotel Ottilia was also chosen as the most beautiful building project in the Copenhagen municipality.

5-star hotel Herman K, previously run by Brøchner, also made the list as #18. Located in a former transformer station, the place is known for its luxurious design and respect for the original brutalist architecture.

The hundreds of thousands of votes for this year’s awards were cast from April to June 2020. The candidates are judged based on a set of criteria relevant to their category on a five-point scale. More info on the tabulation method is available here.
