The international publication National Geographic has announced its “Best of the World 2021”, where the Danish capital of Copenhagen is celebrated as a frontrunner in the sustainability category.
The list was created in collaboration with National Geographic Traveler’s editorial staff, who hold in-depth knowledge from around the globe and serve an audience of millions. The idea behind the list is that it should inspire readers for their travels to come. The 25 destinations on the list are described as “25 timely tales of timeless places that will define our future itineraries”.
Copenhagen’s inclusion in the sustainability category points towards the city’s strong green ambitions and the aim of carbon neutrality in 2025. The network of public transport and bicycle infrastructure are mentioned together with clean energy production and specifically CopenHill, the combined ski slope and power plant which opened last year.
