Arriving into the UK

Important: Please note that most people who travel on a Danish or other European passport (and do not have settled status in the UK following Brexit rules) MUST apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) in order to travel to the UK. Without and ETA you are likely to be refused boarding or entry at the UK border.

The application costs GBP20. The process normally takes no more than 2-3 working days from you have submitted the application. You can apply for an ETA on the GOV.UK website here.

Getting to and from the main London airports to Central London

Heathrow

  • London Underground: Both the Elizabeth Line and Piccadilly Line run from Heathrow airport into Central London. Journey time is 40-60 minutes.
  • The Heathrow Express runs non-stop to Paddington every 15 minutes. Journey time is 15 minutes.  From Paddington you can connect to the London Underground for onwards travel.

Gatwick

  • Gatwick Express runs non-stop to London Victoria Station. Journey time 30-35 minutes. From London Victoria you can connect to the London Underground for onwards travel.
  • Southern Railway (for London Victoria and London Bridge)
  • Thameslink (for London Bridge, Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon, and St Pancras International)

Stansted

Stansted Express runs trains to Tottenham Hale in North London and London Liverpool Street. You can connect to London Underground from both stations.

London City Airport (closest to the Excel)

  • Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is part of the Transport for London underground network and connects to Canning, Town, Bank station and Tower Gateway where you can connect to other London Underground Lines for onward travel.

Buses to and from the airports use National Express

Taxis: London Black cabs are metered and easy to find outside all major stations. For taxi-transport from the airports we recommend using Uber.

Tickets: On the London Underground (including tube and busses) you can use your contactless card to tap in and out at stations. You don't need a travel card or an app to travel.

If you travel by train you must purchase a valid ticket before you travel. You can purchase tickets at the airport ticket machines or use The Trainline website or app to check train times and purchase tickets.
