A Romantic Park by Holbæk Fjord

Strandparken in Holbæk stretches along the southernmost part of the Isefjord, where Holbæk Fjord meets the open water. The park was established in the late 1800s when merchant W.R. Tidemand gifted the land to the municipality, and it has remained one of the town's most beloved green retreats ever since. The design draws inspiration from Frederiksberg Gardens in Copenhagen, and you can still sense it in the winding paths, sweeping lawns and varied plantings that create an almost fairy-tale setting around the fjord.

Art and Culture among the Trees

In the northern part of the park stands Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson's sculpture "5 Dimensional Pavillion" — a work in flat steel from the year 2000, conceived as an artistic interpretation of an ancient spring. Water flows into a round mirror pool beneath the pavilion, creating a still, meditative space in the heart of nature. The sculpture has become an emblem of Strandparken and a favourite photo spot for visitors from across Denmark.

Fjord Views and Fresh Air

The park's greatest draw is the unobstructed view across Holbæk Fjord. From the lookout tower at Søbadet Venedig you can gaze far across the water, and on clear days the silhouette of Orø island appears on the horizon. Søbadet Venedig itself is one of Holbæk's most popular bathing spots, with jetties reaching straight into the fjord — a wonderful place to cool off on a warm summer's day. Right next door, the Turkish Bath in Holbæk offers an entirely different kind of water experience in historic surroundings.

Playground, Mill and Green Spaces

For families with children the park features a well-kept playground with room for both tumbling and exploring. One of its charming surprises is the more than 80-year-old post mill, still standing as a reminder of the area's agricultural heritage. Large lawns invite ball games and picnics, while the shadier spots beneath the old trees are perfect for a quiet moment with a book.

Experiences Nearby

Strandparken is within walking distance of Holbæk town centre, where you will find cafés, shops and Holbæk Harbour with its maritime atmosphere. Following the fjord you quickly reach Fælleden and the open meadows of Tuse Næs. The Holbæk area offers a wealth of nature, culture and activities for the whole family — from Viking traces at Tuse to beaches along the fjord.
