Sct. Bodils Kirke

Sct. Bodils Kirke is located in Bodilsker Sogn about four kilometers west of Nexø and is a classic Romanesque church built in the Middle Ages. The church is dedicated to the English saint Sct. Bothulf (Bodil), who has given his name to both the church and the parish.

The oldest part of the church dates from the Romanesque period, while the distinctive tower is built in the late Romanesque style. The church was later expanded - including a northern transept from 1911, which gives the church its current shape.

The interior of the church and its surroundings

The church contains several interesting details inside. There are two baptismal fonts: a newer one made of granite and an older Gotland limestone font of the cup type, which testifies to the connections to the Baltic Sea area in the Middle Ages. The pulpit dates from around 1600 and is a fine example of the craftsmanship of the time.

The church is surrounded by a classic Bornholm cemetery and the open landscape, making it an ideal stop on a trip to the area. The combination of history, architecture and tranquil nature makes Bodil's Church an authentic experience of Bornholm's cultural heritage.
