Egebæk Spring
Egebæk Spring rises from the chalk hill west of Hvolbjerg and is one of the notable springs in the area around Gravlev Ådal. The spring produces as much as 70–80 litres of water per second and has played an important role in both nature and the local area over time.
A watermill once stood by the spring, where the water was dammed to form a millpond. For a period from the beginning of the 1900s, the mill supplied both Gravlev and Oplev with electricity using a turbine.
Later, Egebæk Fish Farm was established by the spring. The fish farm was closed down in 1997 after the area had been acquired by the Danish Nature Agency. The spring stream was then restored with a natural, winding course, and the old ponds were levelled. In connection with the re-meandering of Lindenborg Å in 2009, the stream was extended, giving it a better connection to the river.
Today, Egebæk Spring is a lovely place to experience how nature has found its way back. The spring stream is home to a healthy and natural trout population, and the many small fish attract kingfishers, which can often be seen along the spring.
Egebæk Spring is marked as point of interest 5 on the map of Rold Skov.
