Fairytale Christmas at Birkegårdens Haver
As darkness falls, thousands of lights come on at Birkegårdens Haver. Stroll through the illuminated gardens, look for gifts at the Christmas market in the barn and in the large Christmas shop, and warm up with mulled wine and æbleskiver in the Christmas café.
Birkegårdens Haver lies in the West Zealand countryside near Ruds Vedby. On weekends before Christmas the gardens are transformed into a fairytale of lights. See dates and opening hours on Birkegården's Christmas page.
Thousands of lights in three gardens
Each garden has its own lighting theme: the Danish-English garden sparkles, Sandhaven glows in red and white and can be seen from the covered café, and the Meditation Garden is all in white. Come at dusk to see the lights come on.
Christmas market, shop and café
The Christmas barn has a small market whose stalls change from weekend to weekend. The large Christmas shop sells decorations and gifts, and the Christmas café serves mulled wine, æbleskiver and dinner.
Fun for children
Children can spin the wheel of fortune, paint baubles, go on a bow hunt and a treasure hunt, ride donkeys and dance around the Christmas tree. Every child gets a bag of sweets, handed out by Father Christmas at weekends.
Practical information
There is an admission charge, and family tickets are available. Groups and coach parties are welcome, and dogs are allowed on selected Fridays. A few kilometres away you can cut your own Christmas tree.
