Hike - Ejsing Stierne
Welcome to the Ejsingstierne Trails – a diverse trail system east of Vinderup, where the flat meadow landscape meets rolling heaths and deep forests. The area holds a fascinating history, unique ice age landscapes, and an incredibly rich wildlife and birdlife. Whether you want to walk, cycle, or ride a horse, the four marked routes offer unique experiences, where informative signs along the way tell the story of the people and the place.

The trail network consists of four different colored trails that connect the West Jutland landscape in every direction.
Green Route: The Old Church Path
Perfect for a historical hike in the open landscape.
- Length: Approx. 4-5 km.
- Difficulty: Easy.
- Highlights: The route follows the historic church path between Ejsing and Vester Egebjerg. Along the way, you will pass "Studefolden" (The Cattle Pen), where informational signs tell exciting stories about the cattle drives of the past.
Blue Route: The Connecting Path
The obvious choice for linking the meadows and the trail system together.
- Length: 3.5 km.
- Difficulty: Easy (features even terrain).
- Highlights: This route acts as a green wedge, connecting the Ejsingstierne Trails themselves with the flat, scenic meadow landscape at Håsum Enge.
Yellow Route: The Heath and Skånsø Route
The most varied route with direct access to fantastic facilities.
- Length: Approx. 5.3 km.
- Difficulty: Easy to moderate (due to hilly terrain).
- Highlights: Creates a beautiful connection between Håsum Enge and the hilly heath area at Skånsø. The route takes you past the crystal-clear lobelia lake, Skånsø, and the open heath areas, which are covered in a purple carpet of heather in late summer.
Red Route: The Dike Ridge towards Geddal
A magnificent route along the water for bird lovers and horseback riders.
- Length: 6.3 km.
- Difficulty: Easy.
- Highlights: The route stretches between Sdr. Lem Vig and along the top of the dike between Venø Bay (Venø Bugt) and Sdr. Lem Vig. It leads you all the way to the rich bird sanctuary at Geddal Strandenge. During the summer months, the trail can even be accessed by horse-drawn carriage.
Practical information for your trip
- Starting Point & Parking: There are good parking options close to the trails at Skånsø (via Hvidmosevej) and in the town of Ejsing itself.
- Packed Lunches & Breaks: By Skånsø, a nice campfire site and picnic tables have been set up, so you can enjoy your food with a view of the lake.
- Outdoor Overnight Stays: The site by Skånsø features a shelter with a direct view of the lake and an associated horse paddock, making the route ideal for equestrian tourists.
- Dogs: Dogs are very welcome but must be kept on a leash to protect the rich birdlife and wildlife.
Tip: Remember your binoculars!
Since several of the routes (especially the red and yellow ones) pass close by large lakes, bogs, and coastal meadows, it is a true paradise for bird watchers. Having a pair of binoculars in your bag makes the trip significantly more fun!
