Ocean Knight at the Port of Esbjerg

Ocean Knight is located where the ramp to the England ferry used to be, and the work pays tribute to the ocean's smallest and often overlooked organisms, while also focusing on the sea and Esbjerg's strong maritime identity.
The work is inspired by microscopic algae, the so-called dinoflagellates, the little heroes of the sea.

Although they are invisible to the naked eye, they are responsible for about half of the world's oxygen production and play a crucial role in the ocean's ecosystem.

The shape of the sculpture is almost like a helmet from Roman times, which the artist describes as heroic.

The color is red, inspired by the phenomenon of "red tide", and also acts as a warning: If we don't take care of the oceans, things will go wrong.
At the same time, the color reflects the port's industrial surroundings and the red ESVAGT ships.
