Røverborgen - Thief Castle
Røverborgen near Gudhjem is a striking rock formation along the coastal path, where nature and storytelling come together. Its dramatic appearance and evocative name add a sense of adventure to the walk between Nørresand and the Helligdom Cliffs.

Visit Røverborgen on your way along the coast from Nørresand towards Salene. The name Røverborgen was reportedly invented by the Gudhjem Tourist Association to make the nature even more dramatic and exotic. The Gudhjem Tourist Association was founded in 1907 and saw it as one of its tasks to make the nature around the town accessible to tourists. They built bathhouses, created paths in the forest and also built a bridge over the Ravneskærte to Røverborgen.
Røverborgen as a film set
In 1917, Nordisk Film filmed “The Wedding of the Sicilian Robber” and Røverborgen was included as a “set”. Today the bridge is gone, but Røverborgen still stands as a striking and exciting rock formation that the light-footed can easily climb. You can find it by walking from Norresan along the Coastal Path towards Helligdomsklipperne.
