A shelter with views and tranquillity

The Skjoldunge Shelter is located at the edge of the forest in Boserup Forest, right by the water, offering beautiful and undisturbed views across the fjord. The shelter accommodates 6–8 people and is ideal for small groups, families, and hikers on the move.

The location creates a special sense of closeness to nature, whether you arrive on foot, by bike, or from the water. It is easy to find peace here, slow down, and enjoy the surroundings.

Campfire, togetherness, and simple outdoor living

In front of the shelter there is a campfire site with a grill, inviting outdoor cooking and shared moments under the open sky. You must bring your own firewood, but it is permitted to collect dry branches and twigs from the forest floor.

A composting toilet is located nearby, but there is no drinking water on site. To protect nature, pitching tents is not permitted, and all rubbish must be taken with you when you leave the area.

Close to water, fishing, and outdoor experiences

The shelter’s location makes it ideal to combine an overnight stay with fjord life and activities on the water. Canoes and kayaks can land directly at the site, and Kattinge Vig is known as one of the best fishing spots in Roskilde Fjord. Just 250 metres west of the shelter, there is a particularly good spot for sea trout. The area is also surrounded by forest and trails, inviting short evening walks or longer excursions.

A hub for hiking and cycling routes

The Skjoldunge Shelter is located close to several of Zealand’s popular routes.

  • Fjordstien (The Fjord Trail), Regional Route 40, passes nearby and is suitable for both walkers and cyclists.
  • Skjoldungestierne (The Skjoldunge Trails) wind through the landscape, with a circular route running close to the shelter.
  • Munkevejen (The Monk’s Way), Cycle Route 88, is just 300 metres away in the forest, while the Danish Pilgrimage Route can be reached within a short distance.

Practical information and access

The shelter can be booked via udinaturen.dk and may be reserved up to three months in advance, for a maximum of two nights at a time. Use of the shelter is free of charge, and without a booking the “first come, first served” principle applies, while booking gives priority.

Parking is available approximately 1.2 km from the shelter at Hundeskoven in Boserup, or at the Danish Nature Agency’s car park in Boserup Forest West, where bus route 207 also stops.
