Elmely Kro combines tradition and warmth with a kitchen that celebrates the Danish lunch table and serves classic Danish inn-style cuisine with a green footprint. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food takes centre stage – without pretension, but with great love for a good meal.
Here you can enjoy traditional Danish smørrebrød or the famous Elmely Platter for lunch, and modern Danish inn-style dishes for dinner. The ingredients are carefully selected and rooted in a locally inspired kitchen with a sustainable focus.
History and Development
The buildings of Elmely Kro date back to the 18th century and were originally a tenant farm under Løvenborg Manor. In 1908, the property passed into private ownership and served as a smallholding until 1963, when it was transformed into a roadside inn. Since 2023, the inn has been run in partnership with the nearby inn, Skoemagerkroen.
The Elm Tree – a Symbol of the Inn
The name Elmely Kro comes from a large elm tree that once stood by the Holbæk Road. Architect and professor Kaj Gottlob, a regular guest, designed the inn’s logo featuring the distinctive tree, which has since become the inn’s trademark. Despite the effects of Dutch elm disease, a new tree has now been planted as a symbol of the inn’s continued growth.
