Frølunde Fed Beach — Views across the Great Belt and the Storebælt Bridge
Along the West Zealand coast of the Great Belt, between Korsør and Skælskør, Frølunde Fed Beach stretches out towards the open waters. A “fed” is a low-lying coastal flat — and that is exactly what makes this place special. Here, the wide, flat landscape meets the salt water in a gentle transition, and the silhouette of the Storebælt Bridge traces itself against the horizon as a constant companion. Few places in Denmark offer such an expansive view from the very edge of the shore.
Bathing water with a view
The Great Belt spreads out in all its splendour in front of Frølunde Fed. On clear days you can see Funen, Sprogø and the elegant arc of the bridge to the south. The beach is a mix of sand and stones, often with washed-up seaweed — a sign of a healthy marine environment. The water is clean and clear, and the depth increases gradually, so children can splash in the shallows close to shore while adults swim further out. On calm summer days the Belt lies like a mirror, and you can swim far out and still have the seabed beneath your feet.
Nature and peace by the coast
Frølunde Fed has preserved an unspoilt character that many of the better-known beaches lost long ago. There is no beach bar or surf school here — just the open landscape, the sounds of the sea and the sky above the Great Belt. Beach grass sways in the wind, and along the waterline you can find mussel shells, flat slate stones and occasionally amber after a storm. The nature on the fed itself is characterised by salt meadows that bloom in purple and yellow in spring and early summer. The flora is rich — up to 70 different flower species grow in the area. Birdlife is abundant, with waders, terns and gulls as permanent residents along the coast.
Coastal fishing
For anglers, Frølunde Fed is a well-known spot. The deep channel of the Great Belt runs relatively close to the shore here, attracting fish year-round. Sea trout are caught along the beach in the cooler months, while garfish arrive in shoals in spring. Flatfish inhabit the sandy bottom, and with a bit of luck you can also land a cod from the coast. It is a place where you can combine a day at the beach with a couple of hours of fishing — rod in the sand, eyes on the Belt and no sound but the waves and the birds.

The silhouette of the Storebælt Bridge
There is something almost meditative about sitting on Frølunde Fed and watching the Storebælt Bridge. During the day, sunlight glints off the bridge’s steel structure, and in the evening it lights up like a string of pearls against the darkening sky. It is a place that invites you to slow down — to sit, breathe deeply and simply be present. Many locals use Frølunde Fed as their regular retreat, regardless of the season. In winter the beach is almost always deserted, and you can take long walks along the waterline with the entire Belt to yourself.
