Gudhjem Church
Gudhjem Church sits beautifully above the town, offering stunning views over the Baltic Sea. It combines history, architecture and scenery in a truly unique setting.

The church with the most beautiful view
Welcome to Gudhjem Church. The church is beautifully situated above Gudhjem with an impressive view of the town's red roofs and the Baltic Sea - on clear days you can even see all the way to Christiansø on the horizon. The location makes the church one of the most photogenic places on Bornholm.
History and construction
Gudhjem Church was built in 1893 in granite and is built in the neo-Romanesque style. It replaced the 13th century St. Anna Chapel, which was located nearby - today you can still experience the remains of the chapel as a ruin close to the church. The current church appears solid and harmonious with its classical style.
The church room and the art
Inside the church you will find a beautiful altarpiece from around 1475. It is particularly remarkable as it is Bornholm's only Marian painting and shows the Virgin Mary on her deathbed - a rare motif in Danish church art. The church room is simple and atmospheric and invites you to calm down and reflect.
Worth a visit
Gudhjem Church is not only a religious gathering point, but also a place where history, culture and nature come together in a higher unity. The combination of views, architecture and historical details makes the church an obvious stop on your trip through Gudhjem.
