Jættestuen ved Arnager
The dolmen near Arnager is a fascinating prehistoric site from the Stone Age. It offers visitors a chance to step back in time and experience one of Bornholm’s ancient burial monuments.

Jættestuen ved Arnager
Jættestuen ved Arnager is a small burial mound from the Neolithic Age, built around 5,000 years ago. Jættestuen were used as communal graves, where several people were buried over generations, and they testify to a society with fixed rituals and strong communities.
The grave is built of large stones that form a chamber, to which a low passage leads. Above the chamber there was originally an earthen mound, which is only partially preserved today. The construction is impressive when you consider that it was created without modern aids.
When you visit the jættestuen, you get a sense of the burial customs of the past and the symbolism that was associated with life and death in the Stone Age. In many places in Denmark, these structures have disappeared, but on Bornholm several have been preserved – and the jættestuen ved Arnager is a fine example of this cultural heritage.
