Orø lies in the middle of the Isefjord and, with about 15 km² and just over 1,000 residents, is one of the larger Danish islands. Its varied landscape shifts between fields, meadows, small woods such as Østskoven and shallow, bathing-friendly shores. Orø is a rarity – an island with two ferry links: a classic ferry from Holbæk taking around 25 minutes, and a fast cable ferry from Hammer Bakke in Hornsherred that crosses in just a few minutes. In summer its roughly 1,200 holiday homes fill up, and the harbours, beaches and cycling and walking paths come alive. Orø is easy to reach and a versatile destination for a day trip or a whole holiday.
