Butterflies, sand sculptures and much more

The experience in Sommerlunden is wide-ranging. Here you can move through the dense leaves of the rainforest and study the tropical butterflies. Or go exploring in the Sandstenshaven, where the landscape takes shape with perennials, grasses and rocks from the local quarry. The mighty sand sculptures are located all around the garden and invite you to reflect and meditate. You can also unleash your creativity in the Morbærhuset, where your imagination finds space with collages, colors and natural materials. If you need to move at a slightly faster pace, the forest playground awaits with obstacles and free play under the treetops. And when a little hunger strikes – and thirst follows suit – we offer homemade lunch, cold and hot drinks, ice cream and snacks in the café under the vine.

Life and presence in the natural setting

In Sommerlunden we want to create a place where nature is allowed to set the pace. Where you can find peace, be present and enjoy each other's company. Here you have room to breathe a little deeper, find a quiet corner or let your energy run free in a more active setting. You shape the experience as you wish – regardless of whether you come as a family or couple, as a curious guest or as someone who knows nature inside and out. Sommerlunden can be experienced at different paces and on your own terms. It is our interpretation of Bornholm summer with all the elements we associate with the best time of the year.

Opening weekend in Sommerlunden 23rd – 25th May

After a long winter, where the grove has been allowed to breathe, rebuild, grow and find new forms, we are looking forward to opening the gates for another season in Nexø.

From Saturday 23rd to 25th May, we will open Sommerlunden with annual passes at the price of a day ticket, daily activities and evening opening on 23rd May.

You can experience:

The Tropical House
Step into the warmth among tropical plants, free-flying butterflies and the special environment that has been built up in the old greenhouse over many years. This year we have continued to work on the house so that both plants, animals and guests have better conditions.

The Mulberry House
Here there is room for quieter activities, creativity and small discoveries. The Mulberry House will be a place where children and adults can settle down, work with their hands and take part in activities that follow the season.

The Sandstone Garden
The garden continues to grow with stones, paths, plants and small pockets where the grove is allowed to be a little more free. Here it is not about straight lines and perfect edges, but about a living expression that changes with the weather, the season and everything that grows.

The Café under the vine
In the Greenhouse Café you can take a break with coffee, cake, ice cream, cold drinks and simple dishes. The café is part of the grove – a place to land between the Tropehuset, the garden and the sand sculptures.

The sand sculptures
Again this year, the large sand sculptures rise between plants, paths and trees. The sculptures are created by international sand artists with the clayey sand from Klemensker, and they stand as part of the grove's landscape throughout the season.

This year's theme: H.C. Andersen
Again this year, the mighty sand sculptures rise in Nexø – shaped by some of the world's most talented sand artists with the clayey sand from Klemensker.

This year, the sand sculptors are working with stories from H.C. Andersen's universe.

Most people know the fairy tales. Some are bright and playful, others are quirky, sad or strange in the very special way that makes them keep living. In Sommerlunden, the stories are not presented as a book, but shaped in sand and placed around the grove, where they encounter plants, paths, water, shade and summer light.

Here you can explore familiar figures, great stories and small details. Some sculptures may be easy to recognize. Others may make you see an old fairy tale in a new way.

As always, Sommerlunden is a work in progress. Some are finished, some are sprouting, and some will only find their shape during the season.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the grove.
