The lake itself is rich in birdlife — coot, grey heron and little grebe are regular residents, and with a little patience you may also spot kingfishers along the water’s edge. To the west lies Tissø, Zealand’s fourth-largest lake and a Natura 2000 area with outstanding birdlife. Sagnlandet Lejre and Sjællands Odde are also within reasonable driving distance.
