An architectural landmark by the water

Backhaus Brown stands on the quay in the heart of Hundested Harbour. The building’s distinctive lines are designed with respect for its surroundings and clearly inspired by its waterfront location.

Its dark façade and striking form have earned it the nickname “the little Black Diamond” – a contemporary contrast to the harbour’s maritime setting of pleasure boats, small fishing vessels and the ferry crossing between Hundested and Rørvig, which passes close by.

A working studio and gallery

Inside, visitors are welcomed by a stylish design presented in both the shop and gallery. At the centre of the forge-like space is the working studio, complete with workstations, glass furnace and annealing oven.

Here, guests can watch artists Nanna and Andrew at work and follow the creation of the handcrafted glass pieces. The combination of calm, focus and traditional craftsmanship creates a distinctive atmosphere where the process is as captivating as the finished work.

Art with a view

Large panoramic windows offer uninterrupted views of the sea, the harbour and the entrance to the Isefjord. The light reflecting from the water becomes a natural part of the experience.

The maritime landscape provides a unique setting for both studio and gallery, highlighting the connection between art, architecture and nature.

Hundested Harbour – creative and maritime surroundings

Backhaus Brown forms part of the vibrant environment at Hundested Harbour, where traditional fishing coexists with artists, galleries and creative initiatives.

The harbour blends old and new: harbour industry alongside crafts, cafés and cultural experiences. It is a place defined by calm, natural light from the surrounding waters and an authentic maritime atmosphere.

A visit to Backhaus Brown can easily be combined with a walk around the harbour, where the maritime character still shapes the experience.
