It was once the payroll department of Svendborg Shipyard, where clerks sat, providing a crisply ironed contrast to the oil-stained shipyard characters who occasionally showed up at the counter if something had gone awry with the week's pay packet. Errors that would likely have been noticed by the wives, who not infrequently stationed themselves at Frederiksbroen on paydays, ensuring the household economy was rescued before the many taverns of the harbor could tempt the weekly wages astray.

Today, Bogholderiet is a wonderful oasis of beer. You'll find over 200 different bottled beers from around the world – including Thurø and Tåsinge – in the beer cellar. On tap, they offer 10 different draft beers that are constantly changing. Bogholderiet also helps organize Svendborg's Beer Festival.
