After a brief introduction, it's time to get creative and design and paint your very own shield, so that it tells the story of you and your family.

There is a charge for materials for each person participating, and adults over the age of 18 are charged museum admission.

Coats of arms were originally used to distinguish friend from foe on the battlefield in the Middle Ages, but developed over the following centuries and, especially for the nobility, became a whole narrative about affiliation, territories or the family of one's spouse. If you would like to learn more about the study of coats of arms, please visit the Wikipedia page on heraldry.
