Danish Buckthorn - Organic from Oversøgård

High on the hill, bathed in the sea breeze, lies Denmark’s largest organic sea buckthorn plantation, Oversøgård.
Set in the picturesque, majestic Ice Age landscape surrounding Veddinge Bakker, the fields are covered with the shrub of the past: sea buckthorn. It was the first berry-bearing shrub to appear after the last Ice Age, approximately 14,000 years ago.
Creative hand harvesting gentle to the environment
Here on this 130-year-old farm, owner H. C. Bisschop Mogensen harvests his sea buckthorn in a creative way that is also environmentally friendly.
Elsewhere, sea buckthorn berries are typically separated from their stems by beating them loose after freezing. But at Oversøgård, the harvest is carried out using a battery-powered hand tool that causes the branches to sway, shaking the berries down into a tray.
