The story of Danish bus transport

The Danish Bus Museum is worth a visit for anyone with an interest in machines, at any age – whether you are a dedicated bus enthusiast or simply find machinery fascinating.

Behind the museum stands the Bus History Society (Bushistorisk Selskab), which works on an idealistic basis to promote knowledge of the history of bus transport in Denmark – a field long neglected. Its activities cover every aspect of the bus industry: publishing the members' magazine "Busbladet" four times a year, promoting publications and books about buses and bus routes, and holding members' meetings.

Another important task is collecting, preserving and systematising source material of all kinds – objects, images and documents that illuminate the history of the bus industry and make genuine research possible. The changes in the industry during the 1990s meant that many smaller bus companies closed or changed hands. The material must be gathered now – in a few years it will be too late.

Exhibitions and veteran buses

At the Danish Bus Museum you will find exhibitions with objects, display boards, images and texts telling the story of coach and bus transport in Denmark. Bus companies, coachbuilders and much more are covered in words and pictures. There is a library and archive, and a pleasant atmosphere with the option of a guided tour.

Coffee, cake, ice cream and various drinks are available; open sandwiches can be ordered in advance and enjoyed in one of the exhibition rooms or in the courtyard. The entrance ticket also gives access to the museum's many veteran buses.
