The Oyster Bar in Glyngøre – taste Limfjord oysters by the water

Imagine standing at the edge of the Limfjord in Glyngøre. The fjord lies calm before you, the air carries the scent of salt water and seaweed, and on the table in front of you is a freshly opened Limfjord oyster. Welcome to the Oyster Bar at Glyngøre Shellfish – a place where the ingredients come directly from the fjord just outside the door.

The Oyster Bar was established in 2003 as a small but important part of Glyngøre Shellfish, a company that has been working with shellfish from the Limfjord since 1997. The vision was simple: to give guests the opportunity to taste the oysters where they truly belong – right by the fjord.

A unique oyster experience

Today, the Danish Oyster Bar offers a special atmosphere with around 45 seats. Here, art, craftsmanship and fresh seafood come together in a setting where nature takes centre stage.

Suspended from the ceiling is the sculpture “Østersmoderen” (“The Oyster Mother”), created by sculptor and professor Bjørn Nørgaard, while flowing water and warm wooden materials create a calm and inviting setting.

A taste of the Limfjord

When you visit the Oyster Bar, it is not only the flavour that makes an impression. The scents of wood, seaweed and the sea mingle in the air, while the view across the Limfjord reminds you exactly where the oysters come from.

The fishermen often share stories about life on the fjord – from the work involved in harvesting oysters to the unique natural conditions that make the Limfjord one of the world's best habitats for the European flat oyster.

Limfjord oysters for the world

Glyngøre Shellfish supplies Limfjord oysters to some of the finest restaurants in Denmark and internationally. The fjord provides ideal conditions for oysters because the water continuously flows back and forth between the North Sea and the Kattegat.

The Limfjord is home to the world's largest wild population of the native European flat oyster – Ostrea edulis – known for its rich and complex flavour.
