Eskilsø Klosterruin
Eskilsø is home to the remains of a 12th-century monastery church. The ruins offer a glimpse of the island’s medieval history, with various medicinal plants growing nearby.

Eskilsø is the largest island in Roskilde Fjord, covering 1.4 square kilometres, and the only island in the fjord with permanent residents.
Eskilsø is owned by Struckmanns Naturfond. The island features salt meadows and abundant birdlife. At its northern end stand the ruins of a monastery of canons from the 12th century.

The ruins are the remains of the church belonging to the Augustinian monastery. The monastery was founded in the 12th century and moved to Æbelholt in North Zealand during the same century. Various medicinal plants grow near the ruins.
