Shelter Site at Tissø — Where Viking History Meets Wild Nature

Fugledegård sits on the southern shore of Tissø, Zealand's fourth-largest lake, in a landscape that has drawn people for thousands of years. The Fugledegård-Tissø Viking Centre lies within walking distance of the shelter site and tells the story of the royal estate that once dominated the lake's southern shore. Excavation finds — gold bracteates, weapons and cult objects — bear witness to a power centre of European significance. For children, the Viking centre offers hands-on activities and reconstructed buildings that bring history to life.

Nature Park Åmosen as a Setting

The shelter site is part of Nature Park Åmosen, one of northern Europe's largest continuous wetland areas. The nature park stretches from Tissø eastward through river valleys and bogs, and the hiking and cycling network makes it easy to explore the landscape using Fugledegård as a base. The terrain is mostly flat and suitable for families with children of all ages. The fire pit in front of the shelters invites evening cooking, and facilities including toilet and washing options make the stay comfortable without compromising the outdoor experience.
