Join us on a guided tour of Sandhagen near Bagenkop and hear the story of the vanished fishing village, also known as Langeland’s Atlantis. Here you’ll hear local tales of a place where people once lived close to the sea, fishing and the changing conditions of the coast.

Hear the story of Langeland’s Atlantis

Sandhagen is part of Langeland’s coastal history and tells the story of a fishing village that no longer exists in the same form in the landscape. On the tour, local guide Knud Pedersen shares his knowledge of the area, the people who lived there, and life on the coast back then. This is a tour for anyone curious about local history, old fishing communities and the little stories that give South Langeland extra depth.

A local story close to the sea

The area around Bagenkop has a strong connection to the sea. Here, coastal nature, fishing history and stories from a local community come together – a community where the sea has played an important role in everyday life for generations. The guided tour offers a fascinating insight into how the landscape and life on the coast have changed over time.

The guided tour to Sandhagen takes place on foot in the area around Bagenkop. The terrain may vary along the route, and visitors with prams, pushchairs or wheelchairs are advised to be aware that the route may pass through uneven terrain.

Whilst in Bagenkop, it’s well worth exploring more of South Langeland. Head on to Gulstav Mose and Dovns Klint, explore the countryside with its wild horses, or visit the Langelandsfort Cold War Museum. The area is also part of the UNESCO Global Geopark ‘The South Funen Archipelago’, where Ice Age landscapes, coastal nature and local stories go hand in hand.
