Sprogø, the small island in the middle of the Great Belt, is closed to the public – the only way to experience it is on a guided tour. Several times a year, Destination Sjælland runs guided tours (in Danish) out to this island with its dramatic history. The tour starts and ends centrally in Korsør, on the Zealand side.

Along the way you explore both parts of the island. On Old Sprogø you walk to the lighthouse from 1868 and the buildings of the notorious women's home, which served as a closed institution from 1923 to 1961. You then continue by bus across New Sprogø – the protected nature area created during the bridge construction, now alive with birdlife. From here you enjoy a unique, close-up view of the Great Belt Bridge's soaring suspension span.

The tour lasts around three hours and includes walking over hilly terrain, so it is not suitable for those with limited mobility or wheelchair users. As Sprogø can only be reached with a guide, booking in advance is required. Find more information at Destination Sjælland and Sund & Bælt.
