Horsedalen – the wild nature and sweeping views of Røsnæs

Røsnæs is one of the most beautiful and distinctive natural experiences on Zealand – and right in the middle of it lies Horsedalen, a landscape so dramatic and untouched that it almost feels like stepping into another world.

Horsedalen forms part of the protected Røsnæs peninsula, which stretches into the Great Belt west of Kalundborg and is known for its unusually dry climate and striking light. The undulating terrain, open slopes and wind-swept paths offer unforgettable walks, views and nature experiences for young and old.

A valley shaped by the ice age

Horsedalen is a tunnel valley formed during the last ice age, and its clearly readable geology makes the area a natural classroom as well as an outdoor paradise. The broad valley with its steep sides opens to the south, and from the surrounding heights you can enjoy a breathtaking view across Kalundborg Fjord and the open sea.

The particular soil and the sunny climate create a rich flora and fauna – here you may spot rare plants, butterflies and birds of prey hanging in the wind.

Walks and viewpoints

Several marked routes lead through Horsedalen and further out onto the Røsnæs peninsula. One of the most popular runs along the slopes.

Nature and pleasure combined

A natural stop along the way is Dyrehøj Vingård, only a few kilometres from Horsedalen. With more than 40,000 vines it is Denmark's largest vineyard, and here you can get close to wine production – from field to glass. The estate offers guided tours, wine tastings and a welcoming café with local specialities. In the farm shop you can buy award-winning wines to take home – a taste of Røsnæs to bring with you.

A day in Horsedalen combines easily with visits to the vineyards and the many other experiences on Røsnæs – from cycle routes and bridleways to beach life and craftwork.

The brochure "Rundt om Røsnæs" is available in Danish, English and German.
