A viewpoint with a view over everything

Kig Ud at Vindekilde is one of the most breathtaking viewpoints on the entire Røsnæs peninsula. The spot sits on the southern slope of the peninsula, surrounded by deep ravines and wind-swept scrub, and from here the landscape opens into a panorama stretching from the Great Belt and Musholm Bay to Reersø and, on clear days, all the way to Funen and Samsø. It is the kind of view you do not forget.

The viewpoint is one of 13 experience points along the Røsnæs Rundt walking trail, which winds 25 kilometres around the entire peninsula. The route was created by passionate local volunteers and offers everything from the flat, quiet north coast to the hilly, dramatic south coast with steep slopes, chalk quarries and wild flower meadows. Those who prefer a half-day outing can choose a shorter loop of roughly 14.5 kilometres.

Røsnæs Rundt starts and finishes at Røsnæs Naturrum on Røsnæsvej 233. From there you follow the markers through the landscape, passing beaches, woodland, dry grassland and the open heath that characterises the outermost tip of the peninsula. Kig Ud lies on the southern section of the route, where the terrain is at its most undulating and the views at their most dramatic.

Røsnæs — Zealand's westernmost point

Røsnæs is an elongated peninsula jutting into the Great Belt west of Kalundborg. The peninsula is roughly 15 kilometres long and holds a remarkably varied landscape for its size. The north coast is calm and flat with sandy beaches and shallow water, while the south coast is marked by steep slopes, ravines and terrain that feels more like a mountain landscape than typical Zealand.

Botanically, Røsnæs is something quite special. The peninsula's chalky soil has created conditions for an extraordinary richness of plant life, and the area around Kig Ud is regarded as one of the most important botanical sites in all of West Zealand. Wild orchids, cowslips and a long list of rare plant species grow side by side with the typical dry grassland vegetation.

Practical tips for the walk

Røsnæs Rundt is a walking trail that calls for sturdy footwear, especially on the southern section where the path is narrow and the terrain hilly. The route is not suited to pushchairs but is fine for children who are used to walking. Dogs must be kept on a lead in the nature areas.

There is parking at Røsnæs Naturrum, which also serves as a good starting point for learning about the peninsula's nature and geology. Along the route you will find tables and benches at several spots, and at the very tip of the peninsula there is a shelter site with overnight accommodation close to the water and views of the lighthouse.

Things to do on Røsnæs and in the area

Røsnæs offers more than walking. Dyrehøj Vingaard is Denmark's largest vineyard and sits in the middle of the peninsula with tastings and views over the Great Belt. The town of Kalundborg with its famous five-towered Church of Our Lady lies at the foot of the peninsula, and from there it is a short distance to the ferries and islands of Sejerø Bay.
