Kølstrup
Scenic surroundings by the water's edge with the Viking Age close at hand
Kølstrup Church is beautifully located opposite Ulriksholm Castle by Kertinge Nor. The church was built in Romanesque style (11th–12th century), but today features a very special and modern piece of church furnishing. In Kølstrup Church, you can experience a genuine Viking church ship, beautifully modeled after the grave ship of the Ladby King and the Viking Museum Ladby's reconstruction of it, "Ladbydragen". The church ship was completed in 2023 and now occupies a prominent and impressive place in the church.
Additionally, Kølstrup is known for its impressive Viking Age-inspired playground, a delightful spot for both children and adults. Besides the playground itself, where children can enjoy swings, climbing frames, and slides, the area also features a cozy picnic space where families can enjoy packed lunches outdoors. The playground is surrounded by football fields, where people of all ages can enjoy a match on the grass, and from the area, there is a beautiful view over the Kerteminde Fjord, providing a wonderful nature experience.
The shelter site at Kølstrup, southwest of Kerteminde, is part of the "Blue Support Points" shelter concept, where you can spend the night in new, modern shelters all around the island of Funen.
The shelter site is easily accessible—by kayak, on foot, by bike, or by car. It is the largest shelter site in Kerteminde Municipality and includes all three types of shelters that are part of the concept. There is also a campfire area with a grill grate and benches, but no firewood is provided, so visitors must bring their own.
