Lynghøjsøerne | Swimming, mountain biking and nature experiences near Roskilde

Lynghøjsøerne is a recreational nature area west of the historic city of Roskilde, created in a former gravel pit called Svogerslev Grusgrav. Here, you can enjoy three clear, blue lakes where you can go for a swim, walk, cycle and unwind in nature at your own pace.

At the designated bathing areas, you can jump into the water from the pontoon and enjoy easy access for a refreshing dip. The hilly terrain and network of paths give you plenty of options to explore the area on foot, by bike or simply take a quiet break surrounded by nature.

Outdoor activities

By the western lake, you can spend the night in simple wooden shelters and cook your food over a campfire or on a barbecue. If you have a valid fishing licence, you are allowed to fish in the lakes. Mountain bike riders can try the local trail, which offers challenges for both beginners and more experienced riders.

The three lakes are framed by steep slopes, wild vegetation and open areas. Well-marked paths make it easy to get around and experience the local flora and fauna up close.

Troll hunt for the whole family

You can take the family on a troll hunt to find Runde Rie, a troll figure sitting and fishing by one of the lakes. It is a popular activity that combines play, nature and a touch of fairy-tale adventure.

Visiting Lynghøjsøerne with your dog

There is a special dog area where your dog can run freely, and you will also find a dedicated dog training area. In the rest of the nature area, dogs must be kept on a lead so that everyone can enjoy a safe and relaxed visit around the lakes.
