Olivarius Bookstore
In Svaneke you will find a small oasis of literature and coffee. A small independent bookstore with the best books for children, young people and adults, as well as a comfortable sofa to sink into with a cool glass of wine or a freshly brewed espresso. You can read the newspaper and browse the latest publications. From novels, poetry and history to gardening books and cookbooks to books about art, politics and architecture. You will be tempted by beautiful puzzles, exquisite notebooks, handmade paper and other fine items. Olivarius is open all year round, warm in winter, cool in summer.
Olivarius is named after Elna Olivarius, who opened Svaneke's first bookstore in 1876.
In the last century, the bookstore was located in the shoemaker Marcher's property on Storegade and sold much more than books.
The shop was modest, just a room in the courtyard.
A few years later, Elna moved to a larger room facing the street, and in 1888 she had the property Storegade 11 built.
Here, Elna Olivarius had the bookstore until 1912.
Today, the bookstore is located at Helgolandsgade 2 and is Svaneke's little meeting place and literary oasis.
At Helgolands Plads you can sit down at the sidewalk café, drink good coffee and enjoy life with a good book.
