On a forest walk in the Langesø forest
When your family wants a trip to the forest, Langesø Forest on North Funen is the perfect place for your outing all year round!

Between giant beech trees and deep coniferous woods, Langesøskoven has a true Funen fairytale atmosphere. At the heart of the forest lies the large, mirror-like Langesø, which was formed all the way back in the Ice Age. It is a wonderful gathering point for families, where you can enjoy the deep calm by the water, visit a real castle and race along thrilling mountain bike trails beneath the treetops.
Whether you come for a quiet walk with the pram, to go fishing or to challenge each other to nature bingo, Langesø offers woodland charm in a class of its own.
ℹ️ Quick overview
- Who: Perfect for everyone. The path around the lake is flat and easy to walk.
- Time: From a couple of hours to a full day, if you also visit the bison farm.
- Bikes & MTB: Ordinary cycling is good on the forest roads. Action on the professional MTB trails requires a licence or day pass.
- No swimming: Langesø is beautiful to look at, but swimming in the lake is not allowed.
- Dogs: Welcome on a lead. Take care around the forest’s rich wildlife, including deer, pheasants and foxes.
A fairytale walk around the lake
The popular 4.5 km walking route takes you all the way around the lake. It is an incredibly beautiful walk, bringing you close to the water and the forest’s rich wildlife.
3 things to look for on your walk:
- Ålekisten: The old floodgate that controls and raises the water level in Langesø.
- The castle chapel: The beautiful chapel on the western shore, right by the water, known for its many romantic woodland weddings.
- Woodland bingo: Print a woodland bingo sheet from visitnordfyn.dk/naturbingo before your trip. See who can spot all the things that belong in the forest first. Remember to take photos of the beautiful plants instead of picking them, so the forest stays beautiful.
Along the way around the lake, you will find several benches where you can take a break and enjoy your packed snacks and squash.
Action on the MTB trails
Is your family ready for speed and mud? Langesøskoven has some of the very best mountain bike trails on Funen.
- South trail (10 km): The easiest trail and a great choice for families. It has built-in “chicken runs”, so you can easily ride around the most difficult obstacles.
- North trail (15 km): The long and challenging trail for experienced riders.
- Practical information: At the car park, you can wash the mud off your bikes after the ride. Remember that you need a day pass or licence to ride the trails.
Get out on the water: Hire a rowing boat
If you would like to see the forest from a completely new angle, you can hire a rowing boat and take an idyllic trip out onto the 1,300-metre-long lake. If you enjoy angling, you can also buy a fishing permit and see whether you can catch one of the lake’s large fish.
Food and drink
When the fresh forest air has worked up an appetite, you do not have to go far:
- Café Victoria (Douglashuset): Perfectly located with views of the forest and the golf course. It serves tasty burgers, salads and cakes – and of course there is a children’s menu.
- Langesø Vaffelhus: The obvious stop after your walk if you simply fancy a classic waffle cone ice cream or a hot cup of coffee.
Bonus stop on the way home: Ditlevsdal Bison Farm
Before heading all the way home, make sure you stop by Ditlevsdal Bison Farm.
- Spot the large animals: You can see the huge bison grazing in the fields very close to the road.
- Play and shop: Take a look around the cosy farm shop, which sells delicious meat and delicacies. Right next door, the children can burn off the last of their energy on the fun obstacle course.
- Bison safari: Check the farm’s opening hours before you go – guided prairie wagon safaris among the bison run throughout the year, and you can even end the day with a big bison buffet.
Practical information
- Parking: You can park at Langesø Vaffelhus (Langesøvej 146, 5462 Morud) or at Langesø Golf Club (Langesøvej 139, 5462 Morud). It is easy to get straight onto the lake route from the car parks.
